Rosmarie Haliewicz

November 3, 1935 — April 28, 2024

Roseburg

Rosa Marie (Rosmarie) Haliewicz (Spitz) passed unexpectedly at home in Roseburg, Oregon, April 28, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born Nov. 3, 1935, in Herrischried, Germany, to Fridolin and Rosa Spitz. She was the second of four children and grew up in the nearby village of Minseln.

One day she met a tall, dark and handsome newcomer to her small village and they fell in love. She then married the love of her life, Emil Haliewicz, in 1960. Shortly thereafter, they moved with their oldest son to Switzerland, where they had three more children.

Both Emil and Rosmarie were adventuresome, so in 1967, they went on the biggest adventure of their lives. They immigrated to the United States with their four young children, Emil being the only English speaker in the family.

They initially lived in Blue River, Oregon, then moved to Olympia, Washington, for 9 years before settling in Roseburg, Oregon.

Rosmarie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved listening to all types of music, dancing, attending concerts and sporting events. She also enjoyed many hobbies such as reading, puzzles, hiking and traveling, but was happiest spending time with her family.

As a homemaker, while her children were at home, Rosmarie enjoyed cooking and baking many European dishes. Her German Christmas confections were legendary and a treat that everyone looked forward to each year.

Rosmarie was also a multi-talented seamstress making many of her children’s clothing items when they were young; as well as knitting and crocheting beautiful afghans and other items for her entire extended family over the years.

Rosmarie was predeceased by her mother and father, as well as her brothers, Werner and Heinz, her sister Erika and ex-husband Emil.

She is survived by her children Ralf Haliewicz, Jasmine White (Chuck), Detlef Haliewicz and Jutta Haliewicz; her grandchildren Jennifer, Kurt, Erik, Kolby (McKenna) and Karly (Seth); and great-grandchildren Kallen and Taytum.

Rosmarie will be deeply missed by all who love her. A celebration of her life will be held at Pearson's Funeral Home (2305 NE Diamond Lake Boulevard, Roseburg) at 12:00 PM on Friday, May 10th.
