Dawn Louise Lane

October 22, 2024

Dawn L. Lane 11/19/1955 - 10/22/2024. Dawn was happiest when she was outdoors. She enjoyed fishing, canoeing, camping and time on the farm. She spent the past 25-years running an animal rescue center from her home and was often sought out within her community to assist with all kinds of animal advice and care which made her happy. Dawn passed away from liver cancer at age 68, with her loving spouse, Lisa by her side. Dawn was born in Northridge, CA and grew up in the city of Reseda where she started her two life-long careers in professional child care and animal training, both passions of hers. She started out as a preschool teacher for a private school and after 10-years she decided to pursue her love for animals and earned her AS degree from Moorpark College. She worked at the L.A. Zoo, Magic Mountain Amusement Park, and helped create "Camp Snoopy" at Knotts Berry Farm. She moved to Oregon after being recruited by Wildlife Safari in Winston and made Roseburg her home.

During this time she also started her own non-profit organization called Northwest Animal Rescue Center. However, after leaving Wildlife Safari, she (along with business partner, Joy Rich) started Parent Relief Nursery in Roseburg (now called Family Development Center.) She finished her career as an Instructional Assistant in the Glide School District.

She is survived by her spouse, Lisa and her siblings, Holly & Larry; nieces, Brett & Diana; nephews, Michael, Richard; and great nieces Cailin and Aubrey.

Dawn was very creative and kind. She loved creating flower arrangements for events and painted rocks to put around town to spread joy. She was always quick to help others and was a caretaker at heart. Dawn was full of life and would fill up a room with her personality and laughter. She was bright, very funny, full of energy, and had a beautiful giving soul. She will be profoundly missed by her family and friends.
